  • Description

The Gura kiln specialises in making traditional cups, jugs and accessories for drinking Sake and Shochu and are based in Gifu, Japan.

The o-choko (猪口, ちょこ) is the most popular sake cup type and is popular for izakaya, sushi restaurants and Japanese bars. What’s made o-choko the most popular style of sake glass is a combination of durability, flexibility in service temperature (for most examples), and the mellow tasting profile it produces.

The latter characteristic of lightness is due to a small opening and very little head-space. The low volume of sake it holds doesn’t allow much aromatic intensity. The narrow opening also concentrates sake to the front of your palate, which can mask acidity and therefore enhance the perception of sweetness.

Slight irregularities in size, glaze and texture reflect the artisan nature of the product and are embraced.

    General information & care instructions

Our tableware is food safe and can, with some care, be used in the oven, microwave and dishwasher. Sudden changes in temperature (eg. from freezer to oven) are likely to cause thermal shock, which will damage your item. Always place very hot items onto either wood or cloth.
