Made in Japan is proud to announce the following series of workshops to be run at our South Melbourne showroom on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 with renowned teacher, Sensei Yoko Kawada.

Kintsugi or "golden ceramic restoration” is a centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken/cracked ceramic* with Japanese lacquer (Urushi) sprinkled with powdered gold, giving a new life to items that would otherwise be thrown away. In recent years this art has been regarded as an important traditional craft, not only influencing Modern Art but also for its positive mindfulness effect and therapeutic benefits.

Makie is a by-product of kintsugi with the same lacquer and powder technique being applied to the surface of small mosaic tiles to create original designs.

Yoko is travelling from her home in Sydney for this strictly limited series of special workshops, exclusively for MIJ.

*All broken ceramic and kintsugi materials to be supplied on the day.

Bonus! - this workshop will be followed by late-night shopping in-store at our South Melbourne showroom until 9pm (10% off store wide for regular customers, 20% off for Workshop participants)
