'Kintsugi' is a centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken ceramic objects using lacquer and gold dust, based on the philosophy of 'Wabi Sabi' - finding beauty in imperfection - and giving a new life to items that would otherwise be thrown away...

This introductory online class (using either Zoom or Google Meeting) will focus on 'Modern Kintsugi' - which follows the principals of ancient Kintsugi but utilises accessible, modern materials to enable the entire process to be finished within the 3-4 hour class time - so that at the end of the class, each participant will have their very own piece of individually crafted Kintsugi art!  Your starter kit also includes enough materials for you to create more Kintsugi art after the workshop.

Once a ticket has been purchased, Sensei Yoko will send an Art Kintsugi starter kit by post/courier - including one small (broken) MIJ plate - as well as an online workshop link.

In recent years, this traditional craft has come to be regarded as an important influence on Modern art, as well as being recognised for its therapeutic benefits.  Absorbing yourself in art for a few hours is an enjoyable way to achieve a moment of calmness and being able to do this safely online – from anywhere in the world – is especially reassuring at the moment...

PLEASE NOTE:
  • Online workshop requires a PC, laptop or tablet with a stable internet connection
  • Limit of 3 participants per workshop
  • Not suitable if pregnant
  • Age 18 years+
  • Broken ceramic to be supplied in the kit as part of ticket purchase price (no personal items to be repaired in this introductory class)
